But since the rhythm method works only for women with regular cycle, condoms may leak and usually men don’t like wearing them, women opt for the oral contraceptives. This oral contraceptives such as the Yaz lawsuit or Yasmin, are being taken daily for 21 days. It is important that every woman should be educated on how pills work so they will have an idea on how important it is not to skip a single pill and what are the precautions they should be aware of to avoid the side effects of pills.

Fertilization occurs when the egg cell is united with the sperm cell to form an offspring. The fertilized egg will travel to the uterus and implant itself. However, when no fertilization occurs, the body will shed the lining of the uterus together with the unfertilized egg thru blood called menstruation. The natural hormones in a woman’s body help in the ovulation, and prepare the body for pregnancy. To prevent pregnancy, the pills work thru its artificial hormones estrogen and progesterone by controlling the natural hormones to perform their functions. The artificial estrogen will stop the production of ovum to prevent ovulation. The artificial progesterone will thicken the lining of the uterus to block the sperm from entering the womb. It also makes the uterus unfit for the zygote to get implanted.

Birth control pills should be taken daily. A miss of a single pill may lead to pregnancy. So it is better to take them at the same time each day. Aside from the prevention of pregnancy, its natural hormones help in regulating menstruation, treating acne and reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.
